Technical Q&A

ADJUST YOUR SCREEN FOR BEST VIEWING RESULTS
This web page is best viewed in a 800x600 resolution at 16-bit color. Since most computers have video cards with at least 1M RAM this should be OK. However your computer may be set up at default settings of 640x480 at 256 colors. To change the settings:
- Start, Settings, Control Panel, Display
- Click Settings tab, change the value in Color Palette to High Color(16 bit) and Desktop are to 800 by 600 pixels and reboot.

DOWNLOAD REALPLAYER:
All songs in this site are recorded in RealAudio (.ra) format and requires Real Player to play. If your browser doesn't have a default player for .ra files you have to download Real Player:
- Create a folder name RAPLAYER on your hard disk
- Click on the button below to go to Real Player site:
Download
- Click on RealPlayer
- Fill out your operating system, for ex if you use Windows 95 select Windows 95
- Select your machine, ex Pentium
- Enter your name and e-mail address, these boxes are mandatory.
- Click on Download free RealPLayer
- Choose a location where the file will be extracted from. If you are not sure just click on any location. A small window pops up, asking whether to Open the file or Save to disk. Select Save to disk ...
- Position to folder you've just created, click Save. RealPlayer file is downloaded and save in the selected folder. It taskes quite a time to load since the file is about 1.3M
- After the file is downloaded click on the .exe file. The file will decompress itself and create folders and icons for RealPlayer.
You now have RealPlayer attached to your browser. Whenever you click on a song a small Window pops up, asking you to register, just click the button Remind Me Later and play the song.

IMPROVE RESPONSE TIME:
All pictures are saved in JPEG format at 72 dpi with high compression mode. Excessive waiting time may be due to many factors but you can check the followings:
    - Buy a faster modem. 33.6K modem yields reasonable reponse time and doesn't cost you an arm and a leg.
    - Tune up your modem. Do the followings:
        1) Increase the buffers: Control panel, Modem, Properties, Connection, Ports settings move sliders to increase the buffer. The bigger the buffer the better the response time at the expense of more error.
        2) Check if the correct driver is used: Control panel, Modem, General, if modem description is 'Generic modem' it may be not the correct one. Change the driver if your modem is a brand-name such as US Robotics, Zoom, Best Data. If your modem doesn't have a name, do not change the driver.
        3) Change port settings: if your modem is 33.6K or more, change port speed to 57,600 or 115,200 bps:
Control panel, System, Device manager, Ports, doubleclick modem port, Port settings --> change to higher bps, also set flow control= hardware (let modem hardware handle the data sent and receive rather than communication software).
        4) Change the default MTU(maximun transmission unit): data shoots accross internet to your pc in packets. The MTU size is defaulted to 1500 in Windows 95, which is not at optimum condition, change this to 576.
Run Regedit.exe, Edit, Find, Find What=MaxMTU, double click on MaxMTU, enter 576 in Value Data box.
If there is no MaxMTU item you can create one: Edit, New, select String value, a new item "New Value #1" is created, right click on this item to rename it to MaxMTU, double click on MaxMTU, enter 576 in Value Data box.
        5) Change your ISP phone number:
ISP such as American Online allows choices of many phone numbers. These phone lines do not perform the same. If your phone line is too slow try another one and hope for the best.

SAVE PICTURES IN AMERICAN ONLINE:
AOL compresses all images under proprietary ART format. Thus although all pictures are under JPEG or GIF they are converted to ART format before being displayed on your monitor. To save the picture you have to uncheck the default setting in AOL, telling it not to compress the image under ART format. Here's how:
Go to Members menu, Preferences, Web Graphics, uncheck Use Compress graphics
